Please introduce yourself, how did you get started with art and design?
Please introduce yourself, how did you get started with art and design?
Hello, I am a very creative person since birth. Skateboarding introduced me to art and design, which are an important part of the skateboarding culture. That inspired me to try to make a living with my creations. The early 2000s, I started to use Flash, and that made me visible to an international audience. Now I have been doing this for 20 years and it feels like a dream.

You go by the name Thisisarobot. Can you tell us how you came up with this name for your studio and the idea behind it?
Very simple, I work a lot. And many people tell me that I work like a robot, so it was easy :) The studio is an Imagination Studio, we deal with creativity in 360. We work for clients, we work with art schools, we work with museums, we create our own IPs. We try to inspire and spread creativity everywhere we go.

Your work covers a wide range, from illustration, character design, animation, motion graphics to the design of toys and streetwear. Is there a favorite place, or is it rather this diversity that you love? How can we imagine your working process?
I love the diversity, I hate stagnation. I need to try new things all the time, try to find new paths, new ways of doing things. I don't like repetition, I like to explore. I love projects that have ramifications in different medias, that can live on a screen, on a print, or on a piece of furniture. Why should we limit ourselves?

Where do you get your ideas and find creative inspiration?
Just closing my eyes. My brain is always in full speed, crushing out ideas. What helps the most is meditation. I meditate everyday for 30 minutes, I use the Vipassana technique, which is as simple as being present in the moment.

You've been in the design world for over 20 years. Looking back, are there any favorite projects or highlights?
I had the greatest time in Milan during the Macromedia Flash days, those days were like incredible, everything coming up so fast, everyday there was something new, someone had done something great. I met so many incredible people during those days, real giants in their crafts, the best in what they do. That inspired me to keep going and pushing.

After coming to Amsterdam, opening a store and a studio was like a dream come true. For sure WeareAiko (streetbrand), Hanazuki and Yoshinami are the three projects that are tuck in my heart forever.

Now with this NFT's rush, it feels a bit like the early web days, but on steroids, and I am having lots of fun again, and meeting all the OG's again.

Talking about NFT's - as an early member of the Hic et Nunc community, how would you describe your experience so far? Has it had any influence on your artworks or workflow?
It has been life changing in terms of creativity. Hic et Nunc is full of passionate people, who do what they do for the love of it. I like places like this, driven first by passion and not money. I thrive in these situations. I started early thanks to James Paterson aka Presstube who I know since early Flash days. He told me to try it, I did and did not stop.

It is amazing cause there are no limitations, everyone is creating what they want at their best level. Seeing this happening all the time everyday is inspiring, stressing and makes you want to do your really best. Artists buying from other artists - a dream, what more do you want?
Thisisarobot, Hey You! You talking to me? Wanna fight?
